No More Page Three!!
Once upon a time, there was a man who owned a newspaper. He decided that the best way to get more readers was to put a picture of a bare breasted woman on the third page of the newspaper each day.
"Men will love that" he said, "they can get a nice eyeful in amongst their news. What a fantastic idea. Men will be flocking to buy my newspaper now."
"What about women?" asked one of his underlings timidly.
"Well, it's empowering isn't it" said the owner. "Women can see that they can captivate men by displaying their wares. And it gives young girls something to aim for - they can see this and think "One day, if I'm lucky, I can stand in front of a camera in just my knickers, and be nothing more than an object of mens' desire. And I'm sure my dad won't mind - he looks at it every day." You see, everyone wins" said the owner.
And so it stayed. Some women complained, but they were dismissed as "jealous" by the owner and his underlings - for we all know women compare themselves to each other's outer beauty as the only measure of success.
And then, in 2012, the No More Page 3 campaign was founded.
An online petition quickly gained pace, currently standing at over 150,000 signatures. Over 25 universities have agreed to stop selling the offending newspaper until Page 3 is removed.
Motions have been passed at recent co-op meetings committing the co-op to putting the newspaper on the top shelf with all the other adult publications.
If you haven't signed the petition, please do so - Page 3 has no place in a national newspaper in the 21st century - help make it a thing of the past.
