Tha can allus tell a Yorkshireman, but tha can't tell 'im much!

We spent a few days in the Yorshire Dales over the bank holiday weekend - we like the Dales, having first encountered that part of the country when we completed the Coast-To-Coast walk some years ago.

We stayed in a National Trust cottage at Fountains Abbey, just outside Ripon.  We spent some time visiting the Abbey ruins, of which more anon.

We also visited Ripon & Harrogate, 2 towns in the Dales.

The obligatory holiday cottage photo.

A few pics of Ripon Cathedral

Yorkshire is home to the opening stages of the Tour De France this year, and this yellow bicycle was in front of various buildings, in shop windows, at roadsides etc in commemoration of this historic event.

I would recommend staying in a National Trust property - the place was clean, spacious, and with all facilities needed - in addition, we were given a voucher for free entry to Fountains Abbey for the duration of our stay, (we didn't need it, being members, but it's nice to know that this is offered), and also a voucher for 20% of food purchased there, also for the duration of our stay.

We had a lovely weekend.
