50 years of our local library

I blogged previously about the threat to our local library.

Sadly, the county council decided to remove funding, leaving the library looking like it will be closed.  The Town Council however, has stepped in and agreed to provide some funding to enable the library to stay open as a mostly volunteer-run facility.

Whilst it's a shame that the funding has been cut, at least we have enabled some form of service to continue.

It was against this backdrop that our local library celebrated 50 years of serving the community this past weekend.

There was a display of old photos, some childrens craft activities, and, best of all, a celebratory cake donated by a local resident:

The Town Mayor, Mr Shabbir Aslam and our candidate for the 2015 General Election, Ms Amanda Hack were on hand to cut the cake.

Libraries are an important part of every community, and I'm pleased to be a part of helping to preserve ours.

  2. Oh dear. You remind that I still haven't taken our books back. I just could not confess when we took them out. I could however state that we are not usually quite as bad as this...
