So, I was being shown around a stately home, historic house, National Trust property or similar, when I suddenly became aware of a commotion in another room.
I went in to be confronted by injured people everywhere. Of course, I immediately phoned 999, and I was connected to some kind of private contractor who, instead of despatching an ambulance immediately, proceeded to ask all kinds of strange security questions.
All around me were people who needed help urgently, but I just couldn’t get the contractor to release the ambulance until I had answered his questions.
I just didn’t know how I was supposed to get the people the medical help they needed – there seemed to be no way to get the man on the phone to prioritise the ambulance.
And that, my friends, is a vision of a privatised NHS…
