A Pause In Advent (1)

The word advent - in addition to being the time in which we look forward to celebrating Christ's birth - also means "beginning or arrival of something anticipated".

Strangely, Advent can also be a time of endings.

As we move into Advent, and into the month of December, we come closer the end of the year.
The birth of Christ was the end of the wait for the long-promised messiah.
The magi's arrival to see Jesus was the end of their journey.

Some things begin in Advent, others end.  It's all part of our journeys - let's give thanks for both beginnings and endings during this season, as we anticipate the birth of our Lord and Saviour.

  1. You're right - we often focus on beginnings, and forget the endings.Busy here anticipating the end of the building work and refurbishment at church - and the beginning of a new year of service for God.

  2. Yep. Endings are not as popular as beginnings but they deserve our attention I think. Makes you look at Advent a bit differently
